Congratulations to our fabulous sports pupils who took part in a Futsal competition held at Windsor Park Middle school on 14th February 2019. Futsal I hear you ask,
well it’s very similar to five a side football, played indoors on a small pitch, it’s extremely fast paced and as there is no offside rule, players need to be very alert following scoring a goal. Play starts immediately from a centre pass again, no time to celebrate, if you do, you can get easily caught out by leaving the goalkeeper as the only defending player on the pitch.
Selected pupils from years 2 and 3 delivered a sterling performance coming second place overall, competing against 6 other schools from the Uttoxeter area. This Futsal competition was created and put on by Progressive Sports for year 3&4 mixed boy/girl teams. Unfortunately our year 4’s swim on a Thursday morning so I took some year 2’s with me to represent our school in their place. I am so proud of everyone who represented our school. Losing only one game in the entire competition they did extremely well, having never played as a team collectively before. Jasmine Mayman scored her very first ever competition goal, William Ellis, William Fryatt and Thomas Vernon all took on the role of Goalkeeper a very important role within a Futsal team. Poppy Farrington and Scarlett Edwards defended really well stopping many attacking players reaching our goal and Jack Vernon took on the responsibility of captain, organising his team really well and making sure everyone had a great time. The highlight for them all was having their photo taken with England International player, Dean Withers pictured with our team.
